Reflux for Aspen Plus Terms of Service
Version 2026-09-20. DRAFT for review before launch. These terms apply to the Reflux for Aspen Plus free plan and subscriptions offered by Timelines Social Ltd., a corporation incorporated under the laws of Canada, doing business as Reflux ("Reflux", "we"). By ticking the acceptance box at sign-up or by using the software you agree to them.
1. What the service is
Reflux for Aspen Plus is software that runs on your Windows computer and drives your own installation of Aspen Plus through its published automation interface, together with an online service that connects the software to an AI model and meters that use. Reflux does not include, license or distribute Aspen Plus. Aspen Plus is a product of Aspen Technology, Inc.; Reflux is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by AspenTech.
2. What you need and must keep to
- A valid Aspen Plus licence of your own, used within its terms. Academic licences are for coursework and research at your institution; you are responsible for staying within them.
- Your institution's academic integrity rules. Reflux is a learning and productivity tool. Where your course forbids AI assistance or requires disclosure, you must follow that rule; you remain the author of what you submit.
- You must be at least 18 or the age of majority where you live, and the account is for you alone. Do not share your licence key.
3. Free plan, subscriptions, allowance and top-ups
- Free plan. A new account may start on the free plan: a small number of tasks (shown in the software; a task is one message from you, however many steps Reflux takes to answer it), with no card and no payment. One free plan per person and per computer. It has no fixed duration and ends when its tasks or its model allowance are used; subscribing afterwards keeps the same licence. We may change or withdraw the free plan for new sign-ups at any time.
- Plans. The Student plan is offered monthly, per semester (four months) and per year, each billed in advance at the price shown at checkout and renewing automatically for the same period until cancelled. Each period includes an allowance of AI model usage, shown in your account page in dollars, covering the whole period: a semester or annual pass pools its months. Usage is metered at the model rates published on the account page and deducted from the allowance as you use the software.
- Top-ups. When the allowance is used up, the software stops calling the model until the next billing period or until you buy a top-up. Top-ups are one-time purchases you start yourself. You may also turn on auto top-up in your account: then, when your balance runs out, we charge the card saved with your subscription for one top-up, never more times in a month than the cap you chose, and email you a receipt each time; you can turn it off at any time. Unused allowance does not carry over to the next period; top-up balance remains while your subscription is active.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. Reflux never sees your full card number. Prices are in US dollars; if your card is in another currency your card issuer converts at its own rate and may add a foreign transaction fee. Applicable taxes are added at checkout where required.
- You can cancel at any time from the account page. Your subscription then does not renew and stays active until the end of the period you have paid for; payments already made for the current period are not refunded.
- We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email; the change applies from your next billing period after the notice.
4. Your files and results
Your flowsheet files stay on your computer. When Reflux repairs or changes a case it saves the result as a new file next to the original and does not overwrite the original unless you ask it to. Results produced with Reflux are computed by your Aspen Plus installation and summarised by an AI model; they can be wrong. Always check results in Aspen Plus before relying on them. Reflux does not provide engineering advice.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to: share or resell access; use the service to violate a licence, law or institutional rule; probe, reverse engineer or interfere with the service or its usage metering; or send content that is unlawful or that you have no right to send.
6. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why. In short: your email and payment status, your licence key, usage metadata (token counts, model, time) and the acceptance record for these terms. The content of your requests passes through our service to the AI model provider for processing and is not stored by Reflux beyond what is needed to complete the request.
7. Warranty and liability
The service is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, Reflux disclaims implied warranties and is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, including lost marks, lost data or lost time, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid us in the three months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act or other law that cannot be excluded.
8. Changes and termination
We may update the software and these terms; material changes to the terms are announced by email at least 14 days ahead and you may cancel before they apply. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, refunding any unused prepaid period unless the breach was serious.
9. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. Questions: nathan@reflux.sh.
